At the container terminal of Shenzhen Shekou Port, tens of thousands of containers are waiting to be shipped out to sea. In January, the throughput of Shekou Port reached 1.18 million TEUs, a record high, and the high demand for containers remained unabated. On the other side of Shekou Port, is the headquarters building of CIMC, the world's largest container supplier. Here, Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group, accepted an exclusive interview with reporters.
Reporter Li Lin: In terms of the overall market monitoring, what is the current supply and demand relationship of containers?
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: It is still in short supply, but it is more relaxed than "a container is hard to find". We do not have a holiday during the Spring Festival, and the entire industry has increased the monthly supply volume as the output volume from the normal 200,000 boxes to 400,000 boxes.

Mai Boliang said that in addition to the rapid growth in demand for foreign trade exports, the main reason for the shortage of containers is that the epidemic has caused a large number of containers shipped with goods to fail to return. He judged that with the gradual introduction of vaccination around the world and the effective control of the epidemic, the return of empty containers will gradually return to normal around June this year, and the supply and demand situation is expected to return to balance. Mai Boliang told reporters that at present, more than 95% of the world's containers are produced in China, because the containers produced in China can be of high quality and low price.
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: My container is 500 kg lighter than you, and I will carry 500 kg more cargo than you. My energy consumption is lower than yours, the cost is lower than yours, and the price is more competitive. This includes the technical content. When we made the container for the first time more than 30 years ago, 100% of all things were imported. Up to now, 100% of the supply chain has been independently solved in China. CIMC has now produced 24 products. It has the best market share in the world.
Mai Boliang said that the container business only accounts for one-fifth of the group's business. Others such as road transportation vehicles, energy and chemical equipment, food equipment, airport equipment, and logistics businesses have also ushered in new development opportunities this year. Take the transportation of the new coronavirus vaccine as an example. The vaccine is the most stringent variety in logistics transportation. It must be temperature-controlled and traceable throughout the entire process. Recently, the Ministry of Transport organized relevant industry associations and vaccine R&D and production companies to select 28 road transportation companies. CIMC Lengyun, a subsidiary of CIMC, was selected as the first batch of key transportation companies.
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: We have also developed a vaccine storage and transportation cabin called sea-land-air-energy combined transportation. It can reach -70 degrees Celsius, can be kept at a constant temperature, and can be transported to all parts of the world, either by plane, by ship, or by land.
In addition to vaccines, this year, CIMC has a new goal in the cold chain transportation business. According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in 2020, China's fruit imports exceeded US$10 billion for the first time. In November of the same year, the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement" was officially signed, and the vast fruit market in Southeast Asia is waiting to be opened up.
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: We can also put CIMC's mobile cold storage in Southeast Asia. The first kilometer can also be used in China's last kilometer. The logistics and cold chain transportation of fruits in Southeast Asia is higher in quality and more efficient, so that the Chinese people can eat better fruits in Southeast Asia. This is what we want to do.
At the beginning of the "14th Five-Year Plan" and entering a new stage of development, how to use the power of technological innovation to practice new development concepts for logistics and transportation enterprises is also a new issue facing CIMC.
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: The packaging fee for each imported fruit cabinet is more than 20,000 yuan. We are now ready to start trying next week. If we want to change it to recycling packaging, CIMC Shipping Technology will engage in recycling. In these areas, CIMC can give full play to its advantages and do more things.
In 2020, CIMC's annual profit set a record. Mai Boliang said that following the concept of green and environmental protection, this year, CIMC has found new strengths in many areas.
Mai Boliang, Chairman of CIMC Group: The bulk cement transportation is very serious now, especially on waterways. The pollution of bulk cement transportation on the waterways of the Pearl River, Xijiang River, and Yangtze River is very serious. What are we doing now? Tank ships are used to transport bulk cement, so that there is no leakage and no pollution. Second, we must change all these ships to burn natural gas, which will greatly contribute to emissions reduction.
There are many new things for CIMC, that is, it is the second venture. CIMC has made 24 products with the best global market share, which means that it has made 24 champion products during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. , To do a few decent things, at least to make CIMC's future global champion products from 24 to 30, this is our goal.
