On December 24, local time, European Commission President Von der Lein held a press conference with Barnier, the chief negotiator of the European Union, and formally announced a “Brexit” trade agreement with the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom can start on January 1 next year. Japan avoids a "hard Brexit".
According to the European Commission’s announcement, the core content of the agreement is the EU-UK Free Trade Agreement, which covers EU-UK trade in goods and services, investment, competition, state aid, taxation, transportation, energy, fisheries, data protection, social security coordination, etc. every aspect.
The agreement clearly stipulates that after January 1 next year, the two sides will implement zero tariffs and zero quotas on all commodities subject to the rules of origin; on the issue of fisheries, it once became the "bottleneck" of negotiations, and the two sides will formulate joint management of European and British waters. The new framework of fishery resources takes into account the interests of each other's fisheries and fishermen.
In terms of transportation, the agreement stated that after the formal “Brexit”, British companies will lose their eligibility to enter the EU single market, but the two parties will ensure the smooth flow of air, road, rail, and maritime channels. In terms of energy, the agreement indicates that both parties will establish New energy trading and interconnection models, but did not elaborate further.
The cross-border service of small parcel express cooperating with Amazon is suspended
Recently, Amazon issued an announcement about “cooperating carriers suspend cross-border small parcel express service”. The original text is as follows:
The French government has temporarily closed its borders with the United Kingdom and closed the traffic between the United Kingdom and the European Union. Because Brexit and customs borders are about to take effect, Amazon's combined carrier UPS cannot fully support cross-border transportation. From now on, the United Kingdom and the European Union will suspend the co-operation of express delivery of small parcels.
You can find the latest updates on UPS's pickup and cross-border small parcels on the UPS website. UPS tracking the status of small packages of goods will be marked as "English-French tunnel". If the goods cannot be delivered to the destination, they will be returned by UPS.
According to the previous notice, cross-border consignments expected after December 18, 2020 can only be picked up in January 2021. For this batch of goods, you must prepare customs clearance documents as required by the customs. For more information, please visit the FAQ page.
For all cross-border goods that have not been picked up by the cooperative carrier, you can contact the sales partner to support the cancellation of the goods and get a full freight refund.
